Phil Emer
Phil Emer has spent more than 20 years working at the intersections of data communications, research, academia and business – splitting time between the public and private sectors. In the private sector Phil worked as an engineer with IBM, as a technology executive with venture-backed Carolina Broadband and as a technology director with not for profit MCNC. In the public sector Phil directed voice, video, and data communications at NC State University and served as Director of Technology with the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation at North Carolina State University, where he led the NC School Connectivity Initiative. . He is currently Director of Technology Planning and Policy at the Friday Institute where he is leading the NC Education Cloud program funded as part of the North Carolina Race to the Top award.
Phil serves on the NC eLearning Commission and the NC Innovation Council. He holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from Virginia Tech and an M.S. in computer engineering from NC State University.
