Jeff Mao

Jeff Mao is the Learning Technology Policy Director for the Maine Department of Education. He provides vision and oversight to Maine’s education technology programs, including the Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI). Mr. Mao has presented to international audiences and written extensively about Maine’s one-to-one program, which is one of the most well-known laptop programs in the nation. He is Chair of the Board of Directors for the State Educational Technology Directors’ Association. He began his career in the classroom at the Brewster Academy where he helped develop one of the first one-to-one programs in 1993.


Maine has been a leader in innovative uses of technology and technology-enabled curriculum and is currently involved in a Title IID-funded program to explore OER to support the integration of technology in teaching and learning of Maine’s standards.
